House Arrest

To say it's been a long week has been an understatement. We've kept ourselves pretty much housebound since the girls have been sick. The last two nights have been much better, minimal coughing from Lily.

The girls have been asking to make sock puppets together since reading "If you give a moose a muffin..." but I'm not good at sewing. So I had some paper bags and tried paper bag puppets. She's named Shirley. Lily wasn't interested in making a puppet, so she's using Humpty Dumpty in her puppet show.

Saturday afternoon we ventured out to the playground for a bit and ran into friends Erik and Laura.

Madeleine has also insisted on wearing dresses every day during this cold snap.

Mirror Image

I always wondered when the girls would notice they looked like each other. This past weekend we split up with the girls. Lily went with me to the park, and Madeleine went with her dad to the grocery store. We spent an hour there, and she rode on my shoulders back to the car. Lily saw her reflection in the window and said, "Mommy? I look like Madeleine!"

Then later on in the weekend she said that Madeleine was a "different kind of me."

Sickos

It's been a long week. Madeleine got sent home from day care on Monday with a 101.5 fever, and she proceeded to throw up in the car on the way home. Today we headed to the pediatrician to find out she has her first case of strep throat.

Lily, in the meantime, has a nasty cough and may be working on a fever as well. Ugh! I've been attempting to work from home since Monday afternoon.

The up-side to all this is that we went pacifier-free on Monday night. I took them upstairs to be boiled and thought "Why am I doing this?"

I finished the cleaning and didn't bring them downstairs. When it was time for bed time, I waited to see what they'd do. When Lily asked where they were, I said that we couldn't use them if they were sick. She kind of took that as a matter-of-fact, and that's been it for the most part. She's woken up looking for one a few times, but I just remind her to go back to sleep.

Now let's get those girls better!

Circus Freaks

Friday night I finally decided it was safe enough to buy Circus tickets. I'd been holding off because of health issues with the girls and decided everyone was good to go this weekend. We went to the 11 am show on Sunday.

We didn't hit the floor for the pre-show. There was a crazy amount of people already down there, and we could see one of the rings from our seats anyway. Lily enjoyed watching the juggling while Madeleine screamed at every cotton candy/crown/light-up toy vendor that walked by, "I want that!"
As for the show itself, I felt Madeleine could take it or leave it. She didn't seem to wake up until the second half, when she kept trying to perform acrobat tricks in her seat. Mostly because she was trying to get a reaction out of us. She kept up with the begging, so we got her a $12 bag of cotton candy on the way out. It has not been eaten by the way. I'm just waiting for her to remember the princess hat she wanted (which wasn't for sale, just on the head of the performers).
Lily, on the other hand, watched the first half intently. Then, during the faux-techno song and dance number, she danced like a crazy woman the entire time. Eric and I couldn't help but laugh, and so did the people behind us. But, then she was wore out for the second half.
